On a Saturday we headed early to the Sorrento Foreshore, parking at the Sorrento Foreshore Camp site to spend the day at the beach. The weather was perfect, high 20’s, with little wind. It was a great day for #todoing.

Steph did a live post to our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/todoingfamily sharing a little bit about what we had planned for the day. We got ourselves set up, and the kids hit the water pretty much straight away. A run of hot weather, and being a bay, meant very comfortable swimming conditions even in the morning.
Sorrento is a fantastic spot on the peninsula and whilst property prices are sky high there is plenty you can do as a weekend visitor. Port Phillip Bay presents not only a wonderful outlook, but a great swimming beach with clear shallow waters. You can also cross over to the other side of Sorrento to access the back beach, a different experience to the bay.
In addition to beach activities, the Queenscliff Ferry comes through regularly, taking cars and people back and forth, there’s a great hotel with lots of outdoor seating, plenty of galleries, boutique restaurants and wineries closeby.
We bought along a shade shelter and thanks to the local Sea Scouts had access to a number of watercraft including Sea Kayaks and Sailing Boats. We took along a packed lunch, although the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club was close by. The restaurant is open only to members, but there is a café downstairs that sells pies, ice creams and drinks to the public.
What did we get up to?
The Sorrento Pier is right in front of the yacht club and presents a great platform for jumping and swimming around. Harry was automatically attracted to the piers, with the shallow, warm waters providing the ideal habitat for molluscs, fish and other sea creatures. The kid loves animals!
We did some sailing and kayaking with the local Sea Scouts, made sand castles and played a number of beach games. Jed was also a victim of sunbaking in the sand a little to long, covered but for his face in sand.
There is parking right on the foreshore just past the camping grounds, and there is also plenty of carparking around the campsite itself. There is also a small playground and access to toilet facilities.
After announcing our trip to Japan, Jed never misses a Sushi restaurant, and spotted Sushi Express in Rye on the way back home. We stopped in for equal parts cultural experience (!) and to fill the gaps in our tummys. Ok, ok, we were just hungry from a big beach day.
We’re looking forward to planning out our Japan trip in the weeks to come!
