The West Kimberley must be one of the most beautiful parts of Australia, certainly one of the most action packed too!
The Gibb River Road was certainly on our To Do list, but unfortunately a drier than normal wet season had rendered many of the great water crossings dry creek beds. We decided to skip the bulk of it, concentrating on seeing the West of the Kimberley to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek, then heading down and around for the other end.
We started our travels in Derby, checking out the town and then the Prison Boab tree before heading down to Windjana. The first real accident of the trip occurred almost immediately on arrival at the Windjana Gorge campground.
Luckily we had a great crew with us, he was patched up and off we went exploring the gorges on the lookout for crocodiles!
After Tunnel Creek we popped out on the highway, bound for Fitzroy Crossing and the hospital! It was a great way to get a taste of the Kimberley, without having to tackle the full Gibb River Road.
