Travelling Australia as a kid is amazing! There’s heaps to do and you’re almost never bored.
Travelling
When you’re travelling you have a lot of options for what you can do. You can look out the window, you can play a game or, if you have a TV in your car you can watch a movie. Sometimes on a really long drive you might have a few stops along the way where you can stretch your legs and look around.
Living space
If Your worrying about not having enough space in a caravan, then stop. You get plenty of space to sleep if you keep your bed clean! You get a charger beside your bed so you can plug in devices and, if you want you can put in a few hooks, a tablet/iPad holder and a fan. We have all three and it really works out well at night. I have the top bunk and since my window is a little way down from the roof, I have a little shelf that I keep my books on. You can check out more about how we keep our beds organised here.
Making Friends on the road
While you’re travelling you’ll probably end up travelling with another family that is going in the same direction and you’ll end up becoming friends with them. For all you know, you might even live near them! We met the Lund’s early on and have been travelling with them for a while. Don’t worry about not having friends, if you are friendly to other people you will end up with a lot of friends.
What there is to do
If you’re planning a trip and you don’t think that your kids will like it, then your wrong! There’s heaps to do and most places have an activity you can do. Everyone has different preferences, and some places will be more appealing to you than others. The places that combine learning with an activity are really good. In the picture below, we are digging for ochre at Coen, on the way to Cape York, and making paintings. Sometimes you make your own fun.
Toys
In the cupboard we each have a box that we keep our things in. We put all of our things in these boxes. These things may include toys, rocks, books and pencil-cases.
Our caravan
In our caravan we have lots of storage and space for us to live. I think that it is an awesome van and that the beds are comfy. When we are cleaning our solar panels on top of the van, we use the ladder that we also use for me to climb up onto my bed. You also have the world’s biggest backyard!
Local food
If you come up to Queensland, you will notice how much fresher and tastier the fruit is. That’s because up here you have fresh grown fruit that doesn’t have to be brought all the way down to other parts of Australia. If you go to roadside stalls you will find that the fruit there is really fresh and cheap. The watermelons at one stall were awesome and really juicy. We bought the yellow watermelons and thought that they were very tasty, and I loved them.
Overall travelling Australia is awesome! if you want to go on a holiday and you don’t know where to go than you should seriously consider travelling Australia. there will never be a moment where you’re bored!
