Instagram post 17939489437319326 Straight back into it with our local Scout Group last night, joining the end of year Christmas Party at Lysterfield Lake.

The boys jumped into the canoes and headed out with their mates, almost as if they never left!

The boys couldn't contain their excitement as we came down the Hume Highway and on into Melbourne. Many familiar sites!

We've got 5 days back in Melbourne to see friends and family. We're not officially back home yet, with a trip down to Gippsland to finish the lap for us planned. We get the house back at the end of thr month.

Instagram post 17853887413720653 A great overnighter at the Hume Weir, thanks to Aunty Di and Ray for coming down for a BBQ dinner.

It was like a painting as the sun went down, colours, reflections and shadows constantly changing. A very pretty spot!

Instagram post 17869044160529997 We're down at the Wier tonight, a 24 hour free camp called Ludlows Reserve. Toilets ✅ Bins ✅ BBQ's ✅ Picnic Tables ✅

The mighty wier is fed by the Murray, but currently it sits at arpund 40% capacity.

You can camp up close, or hang back a bit near the facilities which we have done for an over nighter.

Actually, almost a year since the van last rolled along a Victorian road!

We're all super excited. First stop Wodonga, before heading to see family and friends in the South East of Melbourne.

    Rapid Bay Campground

    January 22, 2019

Rapid Bay Campground is a beautiful setting to camp in a tent, trailer or van. Set right on the beach, surrounded by mountains, it is a gorgeous place.

We were lucky enough to pull straight into a beach site – or ‘front row’ as it is known. This is where the beach meets the park, with a combination of soft pebbles and grassy sites. The campground is council owned and privately leased. Fees are per person. Bookings are not taken, and upon arrival you are free to choose your site. The manager comes around to collect the fees in the evening.

The beach is fairly calm, with a few waves for the kids to jump. There is a jetty a short walk away which is popular for fishing. We even caught and few squid and had a lunch of calamari!

At the end of the beach is a small cave that is fun to explore, and there is a playground for younger children. Older kids can enjoy riding their bikes or walking to the nearby school, which has a fantastic playground and basketball court.

The campground has newly renovated toilets, but campers must bring their own drinking water. There are no showers or dump point. This is a very popular camping ground for locals, If you plan to stay during the peak season, we highly recommend arriving mid week, as it can be very busy come Friday afternoon.

It is in a great location to base yourself for day trips to Victor Harbour, Second Valley beach, or whilst on the way to or back from Kangaroo Island.
