Rapid Bay Campground is a beautiful setting to camp in a tent, trailer or van. Set right on the beach, surrounded by mountains, it is a gorgeous place.
We were lucky enough to pull straight into a beach site – or ‘front row’ as it is known. This is where the beach meets the park, with a combination of soft pebbles and grassy sites. The campground is council owned and privately leased. Fees are per person. Bookings are not taken, and upon arrival you are free to choose your site. The manager comes around to collect the fees in the evening.
The beach is fairly calm, with a few waves for the kids to jump. There is a jetty a short walk away which is popular for fishing. We even caught and few squid and had a lunch of calamari!

At the end of the beach is a small cave that is fun to explore, and there is a playground for younger children. Older kids can enjoy riding their bikes or walking to the nearby school, which has a fantastic playground and basketball court.

The campground has newly renovated toilets, but campers must bring their own drinking water. There are no showers or dump point. This is a very popular camping ground for locals, If you plan to stay during the peak season, we highly recommend arriving mid week, as it can be very busy come Friday afternoon.
It is in a great location to base yourself for day trips to Victor Harbour, Second Valley beach, or whilst on the way to or back from Kangaroo Island.
