If you have
a caravan or RV, you’re likely to have an extendable awning. In high winds you need to secure that awning
or there is a real risk of it blowing off, ripping or bending, especially in
high winds or storms.
We’ve been
to some windy locations around Australia, the blustery coast of South
Australia, Windy Western Australia beaches, even out in the outback exposed
from all angles in the middle of nowhere.
These same
places often require a bit of sun protection too, in the form of our caravan
awning. But how can you do it safely to
ensure your caravan awning stays secure?
The caravan awning itself generally has two supporting arms and two cross beams. But these alone will not keep your awning in place in camping locations prone to gusts of high winds. The newer electric awnings are even more susceptible, tending to have one less point of contact with the caravan.
Of course, best practice is always to bring it in during periods of high winds, but sometimes that just isn’t practical. For example when in hot locations or strong tropical rain when seeking a little bit of cover for yourself and your belongings.
