Series 5 Episode 8: Cairns & the Skyrail to Kuranda

    October 29, 2019

Still in the midst of the Wet Tropics, we had the chance to explore the rainforests surrounding Cairns. Visiting Kuranda and the Daintree Rainforest, we have built a great understanding and love of the rainforests of Australia’s Far North Queensland.

We started out in the Cairns region by droping in, literally, some crystal clear waters, visiting Babinda and the Babinda Boulders.

Fathers Day done right! JD has spent the day teaching the boys the proper horsey techniques in a tropical paradise. Babinda Boulders was temporarily a wave park, much to the dismay of a few randomly beached European tourists. 🤣 Happy fathers days to all of the Dad's out there, hope you had a great day like JD and Matt from @lunds_lap with the boys. #travelwithkids #travelblogger #familytravelblog #familytravelblogger #familyadventures #travelgram #familytraveltribe #kidstravel #travelblog #familytravelling #familytraveller #familytravelgram #travelingwithkids #biglap #ozbiglap #travelaustralia #caravanlife #caravanningaustralia #vanlife #caravanningwithkids #tawk #babindaboulders #babinda #horsey #fathersday

We did something a little different for our accommodation in Carins!

Exploring the Wet Tropics on Skyrail, we headed up to Kuranda. A highlight was our visit to the Butterfly House.

We’ve wandered through the markets of @kurandavillage , played on the playground and now visited the @australianbutterflysanctuary One of the largest collections of butterflies in Australia, with a breeding program of a 95% success rate. It’s just 1% in the wild! We met the Hercules moth, Australia’s biggest, as well as a host of smaller species of different colours. Many can be spotted cruising the surrounding rainforests too. #kurandavillage #butterflysanctuary #familytravel #travelwithkids #travelblogger #familytravelblog #familytravelblogger #familytravels #familyadventures #travelgram #instatravel #familytraveltribe #familytraveling #travelblog #familytravelgoals #familytravelling #familytraveller #familytraveltips #familytravelgram #familytraveler #caravanningwithkids #showthemtheworld #travelkids #travelingwithkids

The number one thing to do in Kuranda, according to Trip Advisor, Le Petit Cafe’s crepes. We were all in on that for afternoon tea.

We’d heard courtesy of @tripadvisor that the crepes up at @kurandavillage were not to be missed. #notwrong After a picnic lunch at the playground and park in the centre of the village, we walked through the markets. We finished up at the Crepe shop and loaded up on sugary carb goodness for afternoon tea. 👌 #travelwithkids #travelblogger #familytravelblog #familytravelblogger #familyadventures #travelgram #familytraveltribe #kidstravel #travelblog #familytravelling #familytraveller #familytravelgram #travelingwithkids #biglap #ozbiglap #travelaustralia #caravanlife #caravanningaustralia #vanlife #caravanningwithkids #tawk #kurandavillage #kuranda #crepes

Back in Cairns we went to the amazing Cairns Lagoon. A huge swimming pool and man made beach, allowing you to swim safely away from stingers and crocodiles.

    We visited the @cairnsaustralia Lagoon today, enjoying a great swim in a massive pool (free!) right on the waterfront. In addition to the multiple splash parks, there’s heaps of ways too cool off in Cairns. We headed for some ice cream afterwards. It’s Spring now, right? #travelwithkids #travelblogger #familytravelblog #familytravelblogger #familyadventures #travelgram #familytraveltribe #kidstravel #travelblog #familytravelling #familytraveller #familytravelgram #travelingwithkids #biglap #ozbiglap #travelaustralia #caravanlife #caravanningaustralia #vanlife #caravanningwithkids #tawk #cairns #swimmingpool #cairnslagoon

We ended up staying twice in Cairns during our Lap of Australia. Harry broke his arm on the way up through Port Douglas, so on the way back down from Cape York we called in again to have his plaster cast upgraded to fiberglass at the Cairns Hospital.
