Moving from a full size kitchen in a house into a caravan can be a very daunting prospect! Deciding what to take (the essentials), what to leave behind, and where to put what you take…it can be like playing a game of tetris. Here’s out tips on what you might need when setting up a caravan, campervan or RV camp kitchen.
Crockery
There are a couple of options when it comes to crockery. Most people go for either plastic, melamine, or ? Our choice was melamine, which can be purchased from many variety stores. We bought way to many to begin, but soon realized that we didn’t need too many extras, and the added weight was significant. We have large and small plates, enough for one each, and a bowl each. When you don’t have a dishwasher, it is easy to wash the dishes as you go.

Saucepans
You will need a couple of saucepans and one or two frypans, depending on the size of your family and cooking habits. Many people use items that they have finished with at home, the catch, they can be hard to store. But we have found what we think is a genius solution. When we spotted the Tefal Ingenio saucepans, we knew that they were the right choice, as they stack inside each other, with removable handles, these are a massive space saver. On top of this, they also come with plastic lids, so can be used for food storage. Genius!

Pantry
Some caravans have a dedicated pantry, others have a variety of cupboards and overheads. Storage is really a personal choice, and again, dependent on your eating habits. When we got our van, I bought a selection of Sistema containers and played a game of tetris, seeing what would fit where and thinking about how I would use the containers. We wanted to keep open packets fresh, and these containers have done the job perfectly, even in hot and humid environments.

Baking
We like to do a fair bit of baking, which has been especially handy when we are in remote areas with limited access to fresh food. At home I had a massive pot drawer full of trays and tins, but we had to choose just a few to take in the caravan. Opting for silicone products was a huge weight saver, with the added benefit of fitting flexibly into tight spaces.
