If you’ve followed along our journey, you will know that we love exploring and have made stacks of family memories in the sun. Around Australia we have visited heaps of beaches that we can drive on and use our awning on the car, but this is not always possible. Sometimes we need shade in a location that can only be reached by foot.
When asked to try and review the Breezy Shade, we jumped at the opportunity. Unlike traditional tent style beach shade shelters, the Breezy Shade is completely open, allowing for 360 degree views whilst enjoying protection and shelter.
However, the Breezy Shade is even more versatile, with the ability to be used on grass and soil in addition to the beach. This was perfect for our trip to Sydney, and we were able to put it to good use on our camping trip to Cockatoo Island.
In this review, we share our experience using the Breezy Shade on grass, in very windy conditions!
What you get
The Breezy Shade is packed is an easy to carry bag, complete with a carry handle. It is very lightweight, and easy to keep in the car to have on hand for when it is needed.
It comes with the sail itself, made from stretchy lycre, and two poles. Pegs can be purchased separately, or standard tent pegs are fine, too. The Breezy Shade has loops on each corner for use with pegs.
Putting it up
Putting up the Breezy Shade is very simple, and whilst possible for one person to erect, it is easiest when there are two people to help. After laying out the fabric, the pegs can be screwed in (for use on grass) or the pockets filled with sand (for use on the beach). Opposite corners are secured whilst stretching the fabric, followed by the remaining diagonally opposite corners.
Next , the poles are fitted, selecting the best location to provide maximum sun protection. This depends on the location time of day, and can be moved as the sun moves. Further information can be found on the Breezy Shade website.
…and that’s it!
It really is that simple! Our family was able to set up the Breezy Shade on multiple occasions, with the helps of one adult and one child, in only a few minutes. We used the Large size, that provided enough shade for our family of 5.
Tips and tricks
Through continued use, we discovered that is was worth playing around with the location of the poles, to assist with stability and maximum shade. In windy condition, we found that placing the poles close to the legs of the sail provided maximum stability.
The screw style pegs that are available with the Breezy Shade are very easy to use, and would be pefect if extra securing is needed on the beach, or in soft soil. In hard ground, we used metal tent pegs that held it firmly in place.
In windy conditions, placing the poles on the side of the Breezy Shade where the wind is coming from creates a sail effect that does blow around, but ultimately keeps everything in place.
The verdict…
The Breezy Shade is a great addition to our kit and will be kept in the car so we always have it on hand when needed. We love that it is so simple to use, and that we can relax whilst watching the kids play, wherever they go! When it is time for a break, we can all fit in the shade.
